Weitenkampf, Frank. ENO COLLECTION OF NEW YORK CITY VIEWS. $45.
Cloth. Oversized Octavo. Illustrated. 82 pages. New York, New York: New York Public Library, 1925.
The New York Public Library purchased the Amos F. Eno Collection
of New York City Views after Eno's death in 1915.
In a stroke, the NYPL added 450 items to its store of prints illustrating the
growth of the City and its aspect at different times and in various places.
The Eno Collection, one of the most important of its kind, adds richly to the
NYPL's mass of material on the subject. The prints are arranged chronologically,
the first dating from 1650. Each print has a small annotation, the location,
a description of the printing process used, and relevant information concerning
artist, attribution, or location in books or periodicals. Besides Manhattan,
there are sections on Brooklyn, Staten Island, and New York State. Weitenkampf
also provides a valuable and very thorough artist-title-subject index.
